State of Delaware Recognition


Congratulations to the Cross Country, Football, and Soccer teams who were recognized by Delaware State Representative Nnamdi Chukwuocha, State Senator Sarah McBride, and Governor John Carney for their Triple Crown State Championships.  Members from all three teams went to Dover to be honored.

Spring Parent Meeting


The Spring Sports Parent Meeting will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 7pm in the Auditorium. At least one parent must attend the meeting if your son is competing in a spring sport (baseball, golf, lacrosse, rugby, tennis, track & field, or volleyball). The general session with the Athletic Director, Katie Godfrey, will begin at 7pm followed by the sport specific meetings in separate spaces on campus.

Wrestling Wrap Up


The boys competed in the Independent Conference Qualifier and the DIAA Individual State Tournament to complete the wrestling season.  Highlights include:

  • 215lb DIAA Individual State Champion and Independent Conference Champion Frank Miller (won his 100th match at Conferences) 
  • 113lb Conference Champion Dominic Lucian (2nd Place in DIAA)
  • 120lb Conference Champion Carter Davis
  • 106lb Conference Second Place Mason Catania (5th Place in DIAA)
  • 132lb Conference Second Place Jacob Girard (3rd Place in DIAA)

Swimming DIAA State Champions


Congratulations to Coach Chip, Coach Danny, and the swim team for winning their 8th straight DIAA State Championship and number 22 for Coach Chip out of 24..  The team was led by individual State Champion Tim Hanway in the 500m Freestyle and the State Champion Medley Relay of Bryce Patterson, Nolan Burns, Ben Lutcher, and Dylan Ristenbatt.  18 swimmers qualified for states, 14 made the finals and our depth secured our win of 361 total points, with the next team at 259 points.

Indoor Track - Five in a row!  State Champions


Congratulations to Coach Byrne and the 2024 Indoor Track team on their State Championship.  The team was led by seniors Jasyn Truitt (55m Champion and 4x200), Bishop Lane (400m Champion and 4x200), and juniors Ethan Walther (800m and 1600m Champion) and Jack Grace (shot put Champion).  Jake Portale and Eli Ecret rounded out the 4x200m winning relay and senior Jimmy Kennedy was 2nd in the 3200m.  Many other athletes scored points to make this a total team victory.   Photo Cred:  Bud Keegan Images

Senior Night - Ice Hockey


Congrats to our seniors on the Ice Hockey team who were honored before their game against Boyertown on Monday night.  Seniors include: Gianni Pacitti, Lleyton DeMasters, Luke Bordley, Stosh Tuschinski, Joey Pietropaulo, Nathan Bellopede, Jack Igo, and Alex Falkowski.  Good luck to the boys as they complete their regular season and get ready for the PCL and Flyers Cup Playoffs.

Wilmington City Council Recognition


The Cross Country, Football, and Soccer teams were honored during the Wilmington City Council meeting in January for their Triple Crown win this past Fall.  We are grateful to Council Member Yolanda McCoy for honoring our student athletes and their accomplishments.  Senior soccer and football players attended, as well as the varsity Cross Country team and their seniors.  Dr. Kardish, Coach Davis, Coach Mosier, and Coach Delle Donne all spoke during the ceremony.  Salesianum is proud of its Wilmington roots and is proud to represent the city.

Frank Miller is a Beast Champion!


Congratulations to the Wrestling team for winning the Governor’s Cup for the second year in a row before the holidays.  It is awarded to the highest placing Delaware team in the national Beast of the East Wrestling Tournament.  Senior Frank Miller led the team by winning the 215 lb weight class and being named Beast of the East Champion for his weight class against wrestlers from around the nation.  Well done!

Ethan Walther sets Indoor 800m Record


Junior Ethan Walther broke the Delaware Indoor Track & Field State Record in the 800m clocking in with a time of 1:54.90 at the Armory High School Holiday Classic in New York. Presently, he is ranked #2 in the country according to Milesplit.  Congrats Ethan!

Football wins the D3A State Championship!


Congratulations to the football team and Coach Delle Donne who finished the season as State Champions in Division 3 defeating Cape Henlopen 45-17, after defeating Smyrna and Middletown in earlier rounds.  Even though it was tied 10-10 at halftime, the boys came out of the locker room and outscored the Vikings 35-7.  The trophy is back on Broom Street for the first time since 2013.  Offensive Player of the Year, BJ Alleyne scored three touchdowns, QB Brady McBride threw two touchdowns (Neumann & Anton).  The defense was on top of their game and highlighted by LJ Smith’s pick six.  Captain Andrew Semmel, had four tackles for a loss, a sack and nine tackles.

Soccer wins D1 'Ship - #3Peat


Congratulations to our soccer team and Coach Mosier - the 2023 Division 1 State Champions.  The team battled with Cape Henlopen and was tied 1-1 going into halftime.  Gianluca Marroni scored the first goal 18 minutes in.  In the second half, Tyler Cifa was fouled and scored on his own rebound on a penalty kick to take the lead 2-1.  Marroni answered with two goals to bring the Sals up 4-1.  Even though Cape scored a goal with just a few minutes left in the game, it was all Sallies in the second half.  This win was the third in a row, and 13 out of the last 14.  Read more at DelawareOnline.  Photo cred:  Bud Keegan

XC Division 1 State Champions - #3Peat


A total team effort, the Cross Country team defeated a talented Caesar Rodney team and the rest of the Division 1 teams on Saturday 33-36 at the legendary and hilly course of Brandywine Creek State Park.  Individual State Champion Ethan Walther led the way finishing in 16 minutes and 35 seconds.  Senior Sam Felice had an incredible race and finished second, followed by teammates Jimmy Kennedy (7), James Dempsey (11), Ian Sabia (12), Kaleb Kain (14), and Chase Coda (15).  Senior Ian Sabia sprinted the final hill to overtake CR’s fifth runner right at the finish line to secure the win for the team.  Congratulations to Coach Scott Davis, his staff, and the boys on a successful season.

XC wins NCC


Salesianum bested Tatnall by just 6 points to win the NCC crown at Winterthur on Saturday.  Ethan Walther led the entire race and finished first with a time of 16:01.8.  Sam Felice finished 5th, Jimmy Kennedy finished 13th, James Dempsey finished 14th, Kaleb Kain finished 22nd, Ian Sabia finished 23rd, and Chase Coda finished 35th.  JV Boys also finished first overall with Andrew Bradley winning the JV Race followed by teammates Joe Conley (2), Deron Tchuente (3), Matthew Poole (4), and James Szpak (6).

Crew Team Represent!


A number of our students competed in the illustrious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts this past weekend.  Antonio Thompson, Nolan Sweeney, and Noah Filliben were representating Salesianum and Wilmington Youth Rowing Association.  Henry Davis was also representating Salesianum and Newport Rowing Club.

Mountain Biking Club


The Mountain Biking Club Team competed in the Big Send at Blue Mountain in PA on Saturday.  Despite wet conditions, riders had a great time and earned first plae finishes for the JV, 10th grade, and 9th grade categorices in the DE League, along with a number of other podium positions.  Our club is the first official high school team in Delaware to compete in regional races.  Coach Klein and Coach Barilo have been preparing the boys for the NICA races and hope to continue to grow the program.  The team jerseys are a big hit!  The boys will be back out on the course preparing for Fair Hill on the 28th.

Salesianum XC Invitational


Congrats to Ethan Walther who finished with the top time overall of 17:07 and a first place finish for the boys races on Saturday on the grueling hills of Brandywine Creek State Park.  Sam Felice and Jimmy Kennedy finished 8th and 13th overall in the Championship Race with the team taking 3rd place overall.  The JV Boys A team won 1st place for their race with top performances by Andrew Bradley (2nd), Joe Conley (3rd), and Matthew Poole (5th).  The JV Boys B team finished second overall and were led by Tyler Gaydos (1st), Brendan Geraghty (2nd), and Geno Klein (13th).

Soccer on a roll!


Varsity Soccer has the toughest schedule in the state and is currently 3 - 0 with wins covering three states starting with a 2-1 win over Walter Johnson, MD, then a 4-1 win over LaSalle from PA, followed by a 2-0 win over Division 2 State Champion Caravel Academy, DE on Saturday night in front of a good crowd.  Tyler Cifa (4), Gianluca Marroni (1), Sean Duffy (1), Chase Esser (1), and Daniel Matthews, are the leaders in goal scoring with Aiden Gonzalez (2), Duffy, and Marroni assisting.  Andrew Scott is stopping score attempts left and right from opposing teams.  The team is currently ranked #12 by the United Soccer Coaches High School National Rankings.

XC opens with Team Win @ Cherokee Challenge


The Cross Country team traveled to Cherokee, NJ and took home the team trophy for their overall performance.  Notable individual finishes include James Dempsey and Kaleb Kain finishing seventh and eighth overall and Matthew Poole finishing sixteenth in the freshman race with 330 runners.  Joe Conley was sixteenth and Sam Fielding finished 30th in the sophomore race with 327 runners.  Ethan Walther had the best performance of the day finishing first overall in the juniors race with 324 runners.  In the senior race, Jimmy Kennedy finished 6th, Sam Felice was 13th, Ian Sabia 24th, and Chase Coda was 25th overall with 216 runners.  Congrats boys on a great day!

Football wins Home Opener


Varsity football defeated DMA 44-21 in front of a crowd of 5000 at Abessinio Stadium on 8/31.  Our offense got off to a strong start by putting 44 points on the board.  Ryan Stoehr threw for two touchdowns to Ben Anton and Bill Neumann, BJ Alleyne ran for three touchdowns and Andrew Ransome ran one in for another score.  Colin Maradik kicked a 37 yard field goal in addition to extra points.  The team is led by captains Jake Ziegler, Nick Strusowski, Hunter Balint, Lukas Ryan, and Andrew Semmel.

Fall Sports & Physicals


DIAA HEALTH FORMS
Students trying out for any fall sport need to have their DIAA forms (PreConsent, Health History, Physical, and Student Medical Card) completed and dated after 4/1/23.  Please see the DIAA Forms link on the top left for more information and a how-to video.  All forms must be uploaded to the Magnus Portal accessible via the OnCampus Resource board using the parent/guardian credentials - not the student's.   No paper copies or other physical forms will be accepted.  Blank form linked here >>DIAA FORM
Please check to make sure you have signed and dated all the appropriate spots!  

MANDATORY BASELINE CONCUSSION TESTING
As part of Salesianum's ongoing care for the health of our athletes, all students participating in football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, ice hockey, rugby or lacrosse are required to complete Baseline Concussion Testing through our partnership with Nemours Children's Hospital every two years.  Only the comprehensive testing at Nemours fulfills the school's requirement.   Please call 302-485-7010, Option 2 to schedule an appointment.  

The sequence of testing lasts about 45-60 minutes and the cost of the test is $55.00.  Please complete the linked Baseline Concussion Test Authorization Form and bring it with you to the appointment.   See the Concussion tab to the left for further information.
