March is National Athletic Training Month, and we want to show our gratitude to one of the hardest working athletic trainers out there, Doc Joe. He along with Taylor Duncan and our University of Delaware assistants, keep our athletes safe, healthy, and performing at their best. Thank you for all the long days and late nights. You are the best!

Ice Hockey CHAMPS!
Congratulations to our Varsity Ice Hockey team who won the Prep/Catholic League Championship with a 6-2 win Devon Prep. The game was tied 1-1 going into the 2nd period. The Sals had 36 shots on goal compared to Devon Prep’s 20. Nick LaBuono scored in the first period. Braedan Graham and Liam Bell scored in the 2nd period. Connor Davis scored twice in the third period and Justin Celentino also scored a goal. Gavin Needs was in goal for Salesianum. The boys get ready for the Flyers Cup. Good luck!

JV Gold also defeated Springfield JV 6 - 4 in the President’s Cup two weeks ago. The boys were down 2-0, but battled back scoring four of their goals in the second period. Congratulations to Coach Carey and the boys on a fantastic season.

Swimming State Champions
Congratulations to our Swim team who won the State Championship on Saturday at University of Delaware’s Rawstrom Natatorium. The team scored a whopping 389 points with the second place finisher St. Marks with 273 points. Tim Hanway was the long individual State Champion, defending his title in the 500 yd freestyle and teammate Bradley Woolpert finished 4th. He also was second in 200 yd freestyle. Dylan Ristenbatt was 2nd in 100 backstroke and 2nd in the 50 freestyle, and senior Alex Tsakumis was 4th in both 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Emery and Sebastian Hess were 3rd and 4th in the 100 freestyle. Our 200 freestyle relay of Ristenbatt, Hess, Hess, and Tsakumis broke a state record. Many other swimmers earned points for the team as depth carried the victory. Congratulations to Coach Chip for his 23rd State Championship.

Wrestling D1 State Champions
Congratulations to Coach Davis, his coaching staff, and the team for their dominant run in the State Duals Tournament. The team defeated Sussex Tech 62-13 in the Quarterfinals, then beat William Penn 59-12 in the semifinals, and then secured the ‘ship with a 43-28 win over Sussex Central in the finals.

Congratulations to our basketball seniors who were honored before their game vs. St. Georges on Saturday night with their parents. Seniors include Brady McBride, Keagan McGee, Nick Haggarty, Nasir Logan, RJ Johnson, and Garrett Lewis. Good luck in the tournament!

Ice Hockey & Wrestling Senior Night
Congratulations to our wrestling seniors. They defeated Sussex Central 48-20 and were celebrated with their families prior to the match. Seniors honored were: Sam Gibson, Leo Marini, Mason Catania, Jacob Girard, Michael Turner, Jackson Bienkowski, Gardner Hall, Gavin Lisa, and TJ Horsman.

Congratulations to our Ice Hockey seniors. They defeated The Haverford School 8-3 on Monday night as they gear up for the playoffs. We honored the seniors and their families prior to the game. Signing Day #2
Congratulations LJ Smith, Luke Guzevich, Noah Micks, and RJ Johnson on their commitments to compete in college football next year. LJ and Noah will be playing at Kutztown University and Luke Guzevich will be going to Bucknell University. RJ signed his letter of commitment back in December to Rutgers University.

Congrats Senior Swimmers
Congratulations to the Swimming seniors who were celebrated during the meet vs. Interboro. The team won 77 - 35 and honored seniors: Logan Russell, Jack Hanson, Jack Cordery, Alex Tsakumis, Sebastian Hess, Connor Scheckner. Good luck in the States!

Coach Davis - Delaware Coach of the Year for XC
Congratulations to Cross Country Coach Scott Davis who was recently named as the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2024 Boys High School Cross Country Coach of the Year for the State of Delaware. Coach Davis finished his fourth year as Head Coach and steered his team to their fourth straight State Title.

Congrats Mr. Hart!
Athletic Director Emeritus Michael D. Hart was inducted to the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Hall of Fame on Tuesday, December 17th during the National Athletic Directors Conference held in Austin, Texas. The NIAAA Hall of Fame was created to honor retired athletic administrators who had exemplary careers in athletic administration. Mr. Hart has dedicated his life, time, and energy to the betterment of athletics at Salesianum School, the state of Delaware, and nationally through his work on committees. He is still always ready to jump in and assist with any committee and knows all the rules, regulations, and history of how interscholastic athletics has changed over the past 45+ years.

Cross Country D1 State Champions!
Congrats to the 2024 Cross Country team and Coach Davis who in spite of injuries, won the Division 1 State Title for the fourth year in a row. The meet was held at Killens Pond State Park, and our boys battled for every spot and earned the win by just three points over runner up Cape Henlopen. James Dempsey led the way for Salesianum runners earning 6th place overall, followed by teammate Matthew Poole at 7th, then Kaleb Kain at 10th, Andrew Bradley at 16th, Aiden Leary at 17th, Jimmy Szpak at 20th and Colin Dempsey at 24th.

Congrats Coach Mosier!
Congratulations to Coach Scott Mosier on a historic achievement! With his 357th career win, Coach Mosier has officially become the winningest high school soccer coach in the state of Delaware. Mosier’s head coaching journey began at William Penn High School, and in 2002, he joined Salesianum School. Since then, he has transformed Salesianum into one of Delaware’s premier soccer programs and a powerhouse on the national stage.

Soccer Senior Night
Congrats to our Soccer Seniors who were celebrated under the lights of Abessinio Stadium on Thursday night in a big rivalry matchup vs. Saint Marks. It was a defensive battle between the schools with junior Chase Esser scoring in the 73rd minute off of an assist from teammate Bryan Perez. Our seniors were recognized prior to the game with their families. Good luck to the team as they complete the regular season and look towards the postseason.

Cross Country in Manhattan
The Cross Country team participated in one of the largest and most competitive cross country races of the year, the Manhattan College Invitational. The race takes place in Van Cortlandt Park in NYC with thousands of runners competing from all around the United States. In the Boys Eastern States Championship race (team was 16th), senior Ethan Walther finished 16th overall with a time of 12:59.80. He was followed by teammates, Aidan Leary (81st), James Dempsey (88th), Matthew Poole (100th), Kaleb Kain (107th), Colin Dempsey (113th), and Lincoln Narvaez (116th). The JV Boys A won their race (1st place) and were led by Andrew Bradley who finished 1st overall with a time of 14:21.20 followed by teammates Sam Fielding (2nd), James Szpak (3rd) and Tyler Gaydos (11th).

Soccer wins on the road
The Soccer team traveled to North Carolina and in spite of the weather, defeated Charlotte Latin 2-1 and Durham Academy 4-1.

Fall Sports starting off strong
Our Football team is currently 2-0 defeating Episcopal Academy and Smyrna. Our Cross Country team opened their season at the Cherokee Challenge in NJ on Saturday, which hosted over 100 schools. The team finished 4th overall with top finishes by freshman Colin Dempsey (6th) and Lincoln Narvaez (8th) in the freshman division, James Dempsey (5th), Matthew Poole (6th), and Kaleb Kain (8th) in the sophomore division, Aidan Leary (18th) was the top Salesianum junior finisher, and Andrew Bradley (28th) was the top senior runner for Salesianum in their respective divisions. Soccer played a talented Charter team this afternoon and defeated them 3-2 with goals by seniors Alex Wang and Tyler Cifa, and junior Joseph Turtoro with freshman Tom deRosa making some key saves in the goal.

Preseason Information
Cross Country:
First day of tryouts are Wednesday, August 14th. Meet at Abessinio Stadium at 4pm for check in and Time Trials. See team info page for more information about preseason dates and times.

Soccer:
JV/V: Tryouts are on Monday, August 12th for Sophs, Juniors, and Seniors only. Meet at Fusco Fields for practice at 7-10am and 11am-1pm. There is a temporary gravel athlete entrance to Fusco Fields that is located on the right as soon as your pull into the main parking lot off of Broom Street. That entrance will keep the athletes safely away from any other construction projects that are still being worked on in the upper corner of the lot where they used to enter the fields.
Freshman: Freshman interested in trying out attend on Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15 from 3:00-4:30pm. Meet at Fusco Fields for practice. Please see note about about the temporary athlete entrance.

Fall Sports & Physicals
DIAA HEALTH FORMS
Students trying out for any fall sport need to have their DIAA forms (PreConsent, Health History, Physical, and Student Medical Card) completed and dated after 4/1/24. Please see the DIAA Forms link on the top left for more information and a how-to video. All forms must be uploaded to the Magnus Portal accessible via the OnCampus Resource board using the parent/guardian credentials - not the student's. No paper copies or other physical forms will be accepted.
Please check to make sure you have signed and dated all the appropriate spots!
MANDATORY BASELINE CONCUSSION TESTING
As part of Salesianum's ongoing care for the health of our athletes, all students participating in football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, ice hockey, rugby or lacrosse are required to complete Baseline Concussion Testing through our partnership with Nemours Children's Hospital every two years. Only the comprehensive testing at Nemours fulfills the school's requirement. Please call 302-485-7010, Option 2 to schedule an appointment.
The sequence of testing lasts about 45-60 minutes and the cost of the test is $55.00. Please complete the linked Baseline Concussion Test Authorization Form and bring it with you to the appointment. See the Concussion tab to the left for further information.
